The Wiest’s Summer 2014

Man, what an amazing summer this has been….yet so quick!

Cooper has been practicing riding his bike so much to try to be able to take off his training wheels. He wants to be so big. He loves his skateboard, but is not particularly always fond of the instruction portion. But he is getting better about feeling things and teaching himself. And I am cool with it, as long as he has his knee pads, elbow pads, helmet, and bubble wrap….just kidding….sort of.

Crosby is doing everything he can to be just like his big brother. But what he doesn’t know, is he is (at this point) tougher than his big brother…at least physically. On a daily basis Crosby takes a big digger that would make even me cry. He will pop back up, I will say “Are you OK?” and he says “Yep!”, and carries on. It is actually pretty crazy. Today we walked around the block and down to the park and back. On the way, he fell HARD 3 times…totally fine.

But, when it comes to something that may have hurt his feelings….watch out. He is so sensitive. And so sweet. Demanding. And giving.

We have spent time at the lake, at the cabin, with family, with friends, at home and away….so many good times!

I can’t believe another summer is nearing the end. My Cooper is 4 years and almost 4.5 months and Crosby is 2 years 2.5 months.  I cannot believe how quickly time has gone, how much they have changed…how much I have changed.

Cory and I will be celebrating our 2nd wedding Anniversary over Labor Day weekend. That seems like so long ago…like it has been forever, in such a great way. I cannot imagine my life without him. None of this would have existed. He is my soul mate, and the most amazing dad my little guys could have ever wished for.

We are all so truly blessed. Incredible families, a home, and each other.

A Day in the Life of Crosby – Age 2

Language:

His speech has picked up HUGE over the last few weeks!  He started a bit behind Cooper, but is picking up speed fast!

Cooper = Boopa

Batman = NaNa (Na na na na Na na na na Bat Man!)

Spider Man = ManMan

Joker was one of his first words

Super Dog = Super Man Dog

Pizza = Cheepa

Train = Chugga chugga choo choo

Bad Boy, No-n0-n0, waving his finger…guess I must have said that a lot.

“OK”, and then he will go do whatever you asked him.

When I say “Crosby” or “Guess What”, he says in a very clear voice “What!”

He can count to 10 (I credit this to the pop up farm book where we count the animals)

“I’m free”, as he holds up 1 thumb and 2 fingers….and then smiles and says “I’m two” and holds up two fingers.

“Watch”….ANYTHING!  Cory took him to a full 2 hour movie, Cooper fell asleep, and Crosby watched the whole thing and didn’t move a muscle.  He wakes up in the morning and one of the first things he usually says is “Watch Hulk”, “Watch Scooby Scooby Doo”, “Watch Yogi”, “Watch Na Na”, “Watch Nemo”, “Watch Elmo”.  He knows how to use the DVD player better than I do.  Thank God for a minivan with a DVD player, but geesh, he is non-stop the second he knows we are getting into the car about watching something.  He will just sit on repeat “Watch Nemo, watch Nemo, watch Nemo, watch Nemo!”  If a cell phone is around, he will find it, unlock it, find the photo gallery, and open the pictures. This goes for anyone’s phone.  He loves watching himself and sometimes won’t even let me take a picture or video because he is too busy trying to get the phone to watch it.

His favorite stuffed animal (a giraffe pillow pet) = Buddy (he now has 2 he carries around sometimes simultaneously, after mom searched for 4 hours on the web to find one)

Right about at 2, he started to say “I love you too”…but when you say “Say I love you” he says, “I love you too”

Mine…

Hulk Smash

A body in motion:

How strong are you = holding his breath, tensing his muscles and flexing his arms out down front (He’s been doing this since before he was 1)

How big are you = Holding his hands straight up and getting as big as he can.

Pinching with a mean, scrunched up face.

Joyously doing the Iron Man repulsor ray move.

Running full speed with a little turn to the side like a dog with his body turned a bit.

Throws underhanded, not really digging the overhand option.

Cuddling.

Hugs, great hugs!

Kisses with sometimes big, open mouth, sloppy lips.

Big Boy!

Crosby (AKA Crozbo, Croz, Cross bow) is 95+% almost across the board: Height, weight, head size

He is a thick little dude. He is nearly as heavy as Cooper at 4 years old, and on some days feels heavier to me.

Friends:

Ryder, Owen (Ownen) (One day he said…”I punch Ownen”), Rhonda, John, Katie, Davis

He LOVES babies!!  Our recent addition of cousin Siri was awesome! He was so excited to meet “Baby Siri”, which he spoke so clearly!  When he met her, he just gently kept stroking her head and the side of her face, I was shocked at how gentle he is. When we are out, like at Coopers Tiny T-Ball, he will immediately gravitate towards the babies, or younger kids.

Activities:

He watches his big brother so intently.  Learning every move, jump, sassy tone, and response.  He idolizes him!  Whether it is jumping from cushion-to-cushion on the couch, or off the last step, or into the water….he has VERY little fear, if any.

He is one of the toughest kids I know, physically.  If he bonks his head, which is frequent, you would barely even know it.  He will look over at me most times after a fall or bonk and gauge my reaction prior to crying.  If I say, “You’re fine”…he is totally fine and moves on….CRAZY!

He loves books! We spent so much time with Cooper reading, and I love that Crosby enjoys books too!  We have decided to split up more at bedtime and read Crosby some more age-appropriate books like Elmo vs. sitting both of them together all the time to read what is more at Coopers level.  He seems to be enjoying that a bunch! I can say, “Crosby, go read some books” and he will say “OK” and head into his room.  One day for 45 minutes by himself….that was awesome!

His favorite books are: The Foot Book, Moo Moo Baa Baa, Elmo goes Potty, Captain America, The Marvel Stories, and Bee Bo

Timeouts:

The kid will put himself on timeouts.  He will just sit there, most of the time not making a peep. No crying, no yelling…just sits quietly and waits. When I go over to tell him why he was on time out, he stands up, hugs me, and says, “Sorry Mama”….melts my heart every time!

If Cooper does something to Crosby that warrants an apology and hug, Cooper will apologize, and Crosby will say “Sorry Boopa”…even when he did nothing wrong.

He may be a rough, tough, strong little dude even already….but he has a heart of gold!

Happy Halloween 2012!

We had so much fun this year!  The Joker, The Witch, Green Lantern and a Lawn Gnome.  Nice combo huh?

Bill and Angie Gerber came over with their kids Mason and Hayley.  Mason is almost a year older than Coop, and Hayley is just a few weeks younger than Crosby.  It was fun to be able to go around with them.  Just like last year, we all went over to the Johnson’s next door to fuel up and hang out before trick-or-treating.  Kim made homemade soup, bread, and mummy fingers (hotdogs wrapped in crescent rolls).  Gary was a big hit with Cooper when he came out as Spiderman.

Then we hit the streets!  Coop ran ahead with Gary and his kiddos and sprinted from house to house.  Crosby and I took a little more time to coordinate with Angie, Bill and the kids and got out just a few minutes behind them.  And they were gone…so excited!  We caught them as they were walking back.  Coop had slowed down quite a bit.  He was kind of like George when gets out in the field for the first time to hunt…he just runs around like crazy and doesn’t pay attention, then when he gets the wiggles out he puts his nose down and hunts.  Cooper did the same thing, he ran and ran, and then tired himself out.  When I caught up to him, he was walking, and at times even just standing and looking around.  When he got the wiggles out he finally looked around and saw all of the other kids, the decorations, the pumpkins and skeletons, and in particular the Batman and Buzz Lightyear kids that were walking close to him.  He needed to fully inspect their costumes and tell them all about all of the tools they had.  It was adorable!

Luckily it was close to 40 degrees outside, so Crosby was able to hang out in the front carrier as I took him around.  He didn’t make a peep.  I think he was soaking it all in as well.  I got stopped 3 times by people saying he was “SOOOO cute” and had a great costume.  He was completely yummy!

Cory hung back at the house to hand out candy and scare all of the little kids.  He had put all of the chocolate in one bowl and the fruit based candies in the other bowl and let the kids pick what they wanted.  He is so funny, there is always a system, and the “right way” to doing things….even handing out candy.  Man I love him!

October of 2012

We started the day with Crosby’s 4 month check up.  We finally found a Dr. that we love, who couldn’t stop remarking how adorable, cute, chubby cheeked, and advanced our little man was.  Wonder why we love our new doctor?  He is in the 90% for Weight at 17 lbs and 4 oz.  And is in the 85% for height at 26″.

Crosby got 3 shots.  Cooper kept asking when it was his turn, and even asked after he saw Crosby get shots – man that kid is going to be tough!

At Ary’s birthday party, Cooper slurped spaghetti and filled up on ice cream cake.  Crosby was passed around from person to person.  He is such an amazing kid.  He can go anywhere, and just be genuinely happy.

One random night we walked around Target, and he just stared at me, smiling every time I caught his eye.  His round cheeks, big ears, and huge toothless grin make me so extremely happy!

Love this little dude!!

Crosby is here!

We are so incredibly thankful to have a healthy, strong new baby!  Crosby Edward Wiest.  8 lbs. 1 oz.

We got Crosby’s name from my coworker Todd.  He and is family live in St Michael, and have a 3 year old named Crosby.  Before Cooper was born, the name Crosby was on the list, but we decided that since Todd’s Crosby is in the same school district and close in age, we better not.  So when we found out that our little boy was actually a boy, we knew right away that his name was going to be Crosby!

When Cooper was born, the middle name was predetermined.  In Cory’s family, the middle name of the child is the first name of the dad, thus Cooper Cory Wiest.  So with Crosby, the options were endless.  After making a pretty short list, we settled on Edward.  I had not know this, but Edward was a name that had been carried down on my dads side, and will now be continued with Crosby.  Unlike with Cooper, we knew Crosby was going to be Crosby even before we met him.  Who could deny Coop and Cros, the Wiest Brothers from the world.

We were so excited that Aaron, Berit and Boden were able to make the trip to meet him just minutes old.  The waiting room was packed with Dave, Ginny, Ron, Pat, Aaron, Berit, Boden, Alycia, and Ary.

I have to admit that for the first few hours after Crosby was born, I was a bit out of sorts.  But in the middle of the night, it was quiet, and it was just Cory, Crosby and I.  That is when I met my son.  I just laid with him.  Held him close, felt his chest move up and down, and felt the weight of him on my chest.  That was the greatest feeling in the world.  He was gorgeous!

However, there were second thoughts in my mind about what he should have been named for a minute.  It was so funny, and this continued for weeks after, but his left eye seemed to be a little more tired than his right.  His eyelid on the left side was always a little lower, and sometimes closed.  Occasionally I thought to myself that we should have called him William, AKA One-eyed Willy.  That was pretty ironic to me, since for the first day, Cooper was actually named William.

When he was born, Crosby’s hands and feet were so incredibly bluish white. A little scary.  They quickly pinked up thankfully!  Crosby was over one pound heavier than Cooper at birth, but was still so very tiny.  Healthy, normal sized, but I had completely forgotten how small a newborn baby is.  The diapers are teeny, the little onesies, the hats, everything.  I didn’t have to worry about that long, as he ate like a champ, and grew like a weed!

A few weeks after we were home and getting comfortable, in the dead of summer, 3 different people mentioned to me that they thought Crosby was breathing shallow and fast consistently.  I felt like a horrible mom for not really noticing.  I took him to the doctor.  Talk about freaky…They ran blood tests, took his temp, checked his lungs, gave him a nebulizer and no improvement.  They then decided to take an x-ray of his chest, stomach and heart.  That was horrible to see!  They stood him up, faced him away from me, pulled his arms up over his head and then clamped this plexi glass like case around him to hold him upright.  He was screaming bloody murder. The doctor made the mistake of telling me that he was going to consult with a Cardiologist.  He did preface that with saying that kids that gain as much weight as Crosby and “thrive” normally do not have heart issues….but of course the word Cardiologist still freaked me out!

In 6 month clothing by 3 months, and in 9-18 month (depending on the brand) by 6 months.  Not that this is incredibly unusual.  But man could that kid eat.  Every 2 hours like clock-work.  Sometimes even more.  He was definitely thriving!  Looking back however, I am not sure that he was always actually hungry.  I think that he needed to be soothed, self soothed.  Eventually Kelly Aho introduced him to his thumb, and things calmed down a bunch from there, thankfully!  Just in time for my maternity leave to end, Crosby found a way to sooth himself.  He never took a nook, and was fairly fussy.  But thank God for those thumbs!
